5th July 2010 Monday Bandh a day to remember

Monday morning usually is a busy day for almost everybody. After a weekend students, officegoers, homemakers, businessmen all are refreshed and ready to start a new week with full force.
This monday was different. Chimpu the porter at the bus stand was a bit worried as he had to deposit 250 Rs in the hospital for the injections that his 8 year old son required for a genetic disorder. Chimpu is a daily wager which means he earns and feeds himself and his family almost everyday on the verge. Today the Doctor had prescribed an injection which was worth 1250 Rs he had managed to sqeeze Rs 1000 from his savings and his friends and was confident enough that he will earn those 250 dimes in 4 hours. No clue about the bandh chimpu stood on the bus stop waiting for people to come and let him lift their luggage but the bandh shattered his plans as no buses arrived and the doctor couldn't inject his son with that life saving drug as he had his 250 dimes on a baskin robbins ice cream yesterday. Need i say more.
Shruti is asthamatic and had a test at school. Her father got her ready early in the morning and walked her down the school. Shruti was exhausted as the school is a 4 Km run from her home and today her school bus did not turn up. She was exhausted after the 4 Km walk and just could not write her test as her breath did not allow her to do so. Now she is afraid if she flunks the test her parents reaction is going to be awesome as she is a girl child and nobody likes her studying in a convent school.
Vishnu is a Insurance Company Employee his Boss had given him a last chance. If he roped in apolicy today he is in the company else he is fired. Vishnu knew the appointements he had fixed for today were positive and will surely be a good bet atleast for this month. He kicked his bike and sped off towards the first customers home, was stopped by the supporters of the bandh on the way, roughed up his bike broken, Vishnu was bleeding from the forehead. The police kept wathching and told Vishnu he should not have stepped out of his house as it was a bandh. Vishnus Boss was not ready to take any excuse as his boss was not ready to take an excuse so Vishnu was fired. Now vishnu is goint to the village with his 8 months pregnant wife as he cant afford to live in this expensive city.
Rama was travelling to New Delhi with her husband. She considers herself lucky as she is illiterate and has a free railway pass. She thinks that her husband takes her to New Delhi every month for a minor gyaenic problem. But she is a cancer patient and thus has the free railway pass. She doesn't know that cancer her eating her up. Today chemotherapy is waiting for her and the past results have been too good. But the train is stopped and Rama cant make it to the hospital today the cancerous cells have their way and multiply by leaps and bounds in her body infecting the other organs which were unaffected till now.
Fancy this a state minister's son was playing and hurt his hand with a iron nail. 4 cars with police personnel and the minister's personal security staff along with the minister rushed the minister's son to the Premier Government Hospital. The Medical Suprintenedent was informed of the situation and all ambulances of the hospital were rushed to bring doctors from all corners of the city. The Medical Suprintendent personally injected the boy with a dose of Tetanus and bandaged his wound. The minister's son was discharged after keeping him in 12 hours of close observation.
Many a patients were not able to make to the hospital that day but the minister made it making a mockery of the bandh that was called by him and the like so called like minded people with his parties alliance.

Now the main topic. The bandh was called to protest the rising prices in the county and look at the aftermaths of the bandh. Flour can be had @ Rs 10/Kg, Rice @ Rs 15/ Kg, All pulses have an average rate of Rs 50/Kg, Vegetables have seen a drastic fall in the prices the average rate stands @ Rs 15 / Kg.
Thanks to all those people who had called for and supported this mega national event and thanks to all those who worked overtime to ensure its suceess. Thanks to the people of this nation who stayed indoors to voice their concern. Thanks to the media which extensively covered the bandh. I suppose the media chose not to report the price fall in the commodities.
Who said Moraji Desai chose the right way to fast to save grains, he should have called for a Bandh.
Even i chose to stay indoors. Because like every common man i have a family for whom i am responsible and i am afraid to voice myself against such a national Mega Event.
